Carriers Restart Second Asia, S. Africa, S. America Sling

Service was cut back to one sling for 2010-2011 season
May 26--Hamburg Sud and Maersk Line plan once again to bring back a second sling to their joint Asia – South Africa/South America East Coast Service, which they cut back to one sling for the 2010-2011 slack season.

Sling 1 will consist of 12 vessels, of which Hamburg Sud will deploy its “Santa” class and Maersk Line will provide “Sammax” class vessels. These ships have a nominal capacity of between 7,100 and 7,500 20-foot equivalent units of containers and 1,600 to 1,700 reefer plugs.

Sling 2 will consist of 11 Hamburg Süd and Maersk Line Panamax ships, each with a nominal capacity of 4,200 TEUs and 500 reefer container slots.

The second sling will be restarted in July, the same month it was revived last summer.

The two slings are designed to be mutually complementary with a broad array of connections to both carriers’ networks in Asia, South Africa and South America.

Sling 1 will have the following port rotation: Busan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Yantian, Hong Kong, Tanjung Pelepas, Singapore, Santos, Itapoa, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Rio Grande, Itapoa, Paranagua, Santos, Singapore, Hong Kong and back to Busan.

The port rotation of Sling 2 is Shanghai, Nansha, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tanjung Pelepas, Durban, Suape, Sepetiba, Itajai, Santos, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Hong Kong and back to Shanghai.
